Everyone can buy a car but not all can maintain one properly. Maintaining a car is an art that doesn’t come naturally to everyone. It is born out of true passion for your car. If you care for your car enough, you will maintain it sincerely. Cars need to be maintained properly and on a very regular basis for ensuring smooth rides forever. Also, how well maintained your car is reflects how high a price you can ask for when you decide to sell it later. There are some simple procedures or steps that should be followed in order to keep your car in peak shape.

At first, we should discuss about how to maintain the engine of car since it is the most important part of the car. The engine oil should be changed on a regular basis to keep the engine in a good shape. The car should be washed regularly and it should be waxed several times per year to maintain the shiny body. Some other items like transmission fluid, tire pressures also need to be checked from time to time.

For washing a car outside, the preferred tool is a pressure wash jet.  Be careful, as it should not be held too near to the painted surface as it can peel off the loose paints. Then you need to wash off all the places where dust and salt could have accumulated, for example, behind moldings, inside wheel arches, under the bumper, etc.   All the dirt from the windshield also needs to be washed. The sand that is left out on the windshield is caught by the windshield wipers blades and scratches the windshield when the wipers are operating.

Waxing helps to keep the color of the car shiny and bright. Waxing doesn’t only keep the color dazzling, but also helps to shield the paint from harsh environment, protecting it from fading. It takes about 30 minutes to wax a whole car and high quality car wax stays on the car for around 3-4 months.

If anybody lives in a humid area or where salt is common in the winter months, undercoating and rustproofing is essential.  Rust can affect anywhere in car, however, the brakes are most affected by rust.   When it’s properly done, rust proofing and undercoating can protect important parts of the car from rust.

There are a huge number of car wash liquids or sprays available in the market. These are also helpful for keeping your car new and shiny always. Sometimes scratches may occur on the body of car and this can be repaired using the matching spray colors. This type of spray can also cover minor scratches.

The interior should always be cleaned and vacuumed; not only for looks, but also for health reasons. When you vacuum properly, the seats, carpets, the area between the front seat and the control console will stay clean and fresh. Vacuuming of floor mats should be done separately.  Remove the mats from the car and vigorously shake them to remove large particles before vacuuming.

The soft brush attachments are best to vacuum the dashboard and the doors.  Cleaning the carpet can be done using carpet cleaning spray.  Apply the spray as directed, then wiped with a dry cloth.  Laundry detergents can also be used to clean the carpets.  Note that any water in the carpet should be dried thoroughly or it will cause mold and corrosion under the carpet.
