Buying the right gift is an art and not everyone can master this art. Choosing the right gift on the right occasion for the right person can be quite a big deal. Gifts are not just a formality; they should represent feelings and genuine emotions. Gifts are a way of conveying messages. Messages that perhaps can’t be said too directly. Gifts mean a lot. They are means of letting people know that they are cared for. Gifts are used to remind people that they are special. Shopping for gifts can be a very tedious job. A lot of things need to be thought through before choosing what to buy.

The concept of giving gifts goes way back. It is believed that when Jesus Christ was born, the Magi brought him special gifts and had to travel great distances to deliver them. A star in the sky showed them the way. Each of the gifts they brought had a different special meaning. They represented something, they weren’t mere gifts. They symbolized care, respect, love and warmth. Before buying a gift for someone, you should think clearly about what will make that person happy, what suits him/her, what you feel for him/her. Gifts should be personal. They should reflect some feelings that you have shared some old memories or special feelings. No matter how small or big a gift is, it should mean something. It’s not the size or price of the gift that is important; it’s the thought behind it that counts.

In O. Henry’s famous short story, ‘The gift of the Magi’, the lead characters, Jim and Della, were a not a well to do couple. They had a lot of financial difficulties and didn’t have enough money to celebrate their anniversary properly. Jim had an exquisite watch that he had inherited from his grandfather. Della wanted buy a very expensive fob chain for that watch. Della had amazingly beautiful hair and Jim wanted to buy her tortoise shell clips for the occasion. But, unfortunately neither could afford the respective gifts. So Jim sold off his prized watch and Della cut off her hair and sold it to a wig company. Ironically, with the money they got, they bought each other gifts that were useless now. Jim didn’t need the fob that his wife got him as he didn’t have a watch any more. And Della didn’t need the clips because she didn’t have her long hair any more. They were disappointed initially, but they realized that the love and care they had for each other was the most expensive and prized possession one could have and that even though they were poor, they were really lucky to have each other.

Gifts need to be given for many occasions, like Christmas, New Year’s Eve, birthdays and anniversaries. In today’s world people don’t even need to get out to the shopping mall to look for gifts since there are numerous online shopping sites that have a wide range of gifts you can choose from for all occasions. Custom made special gifts can also be created. This is highly convenient for the corporate houses as they need to buy gifts for their employees and clients for occasions such as retirement, farewell, and other general holiday celebrations. Thus, finding the right gift is no longer difficult.

Like most people, your home has plenty of carpet throughout the living areas.  Excluding kitchens and bathrooms, almost every room in your home has carpet.  In the northern states, carpet is essential in keeping your home warm during the cold, winter months.  Without it, your home would be an icebox and your body would become chilled from walking on a tile floor during the winter.  Carpeting not only adds to the beauty of a room by adding color and sophistication, it is functional and necessary.  When you have carpet in your home, you eventually experience matting and stains.  To give your carpet a deep cleaning, you need to understand the different cleaning methods.

Steam Clean

When you steam clean your carpet, you are actually cleaning it with a hot soapy solution.  Special machines are needed as well as special cleaning solutions.  Vacuuming your carpet is the first step.  It is important to remove any daily dirt and particles before you steam clean.  The next step is to use your carpet steam cleaner and fill it with the correct amount of fluid and cleaning solution.  With slow even strokes, you spray the hot soapy solution onto your carpets and bristles on the bottom of the cleaner work the solution deep into your carpet.  Removing the wet solution is as easy as vacuuming.  With the same machine, slowly move backwards and allow the suction power to lift up the solution from deep inside the carpet fibers.  The liquid will be very dirty and the fill pan should be emptied as soon as it is full.  You will see how dirty your carpets were when you dump out this liquid!  Allow several hours for your carpet to dry before walking on it.

Shampoo

When you shampoo your carpets, it is similar to the steam cleaning method; you need a special machine for the job.  A soapy solution is used and rotating bristles beneath the machine scrub the carpet fibers.  Here’s where it becomes different – the shampoo method needs to dry completely before it is vacuumed.  Your everyday vacuum is then used to remove the “dry” shampoo off your carpet, where the steam cleaner removes the soapy solution when it was wet.    Some people prefer one method over the other for personal reasons.  Both the steam cleaner and the shampoo methods are an effective way to give your carpets that deep down clean.

Foam

This is a very easy and simple way to clean carpet without the use of an additional cleaning machine.  You may use your everyday vacuum cleaner to do the job.  This is one reason why this method works for so many and is more cost effective.  To clean with foam, simply spray the solution onto your carpets and allow to set for a few minutes or as long as the directions suggest.  After the required amount of time, simply vacuum your carpets like normal.  This foam will have lifted loose dirt particles and when vacuumed, the foam that has absorbed all the dirt has been lifted leaving your clean carpet behine.

Regardless of which method you prefer, maintaining your carpet is very important if you want to keep it for 10 years or more.  Proper cleaning will keep your carpet looking brand new.
