I know so many women who are addicted to buying shoes. I am not one of those women. I buy shoes when my shoes wear out, or for a special occasion if the outfit I am wearing demands new shoes. I can get away with wearing the same basic few pairs of shoes day in and day out, and I do not get bored with this. I have a basic shoe collection, and since I do not go crazy buying shoes all of the time, I invest in quality shoes. I have some brands that I love, and I tend to be very brand loyal when it comes to my shoes.
I have standard shoes for each season. Living in Texas, a good pair of boots are a must-have. When it comes to boots I prefer Ariat or Lucchese. Lucchese boots are wonderful quality but are very expensive. I have a black pair of Ariat and a brown pair of Lucchese. I have had these boots for years and instead of replacing them, I have them repaired and resoled when necessary. A great way to save money and make sure your shoe investments last is to find a good cobbler in your area and have your shoes repaired instead of replacing them season after season. If you invest $400 in a good pair of boots, it is definitely worth the maintenance cost every once in a while instead of the replacement cost. If you do not have a local cobbler that you can use, there are online sites like Nushoe.com where you can send your boots and other shoes in for repair. Everything is shipped in, and shipped back to you, so you do not have to worry about finding someone local.
I also keep a good pair of black pumps and brown pumps. Something that is appropriate for weddings or work. I want a style that is timeless. A simple heel – not to tall, not too short. I expect to pay in the $100 range for these and I keep them for a few years, until I’m ready for another pair. My pumps can also be repaird instead of replaced, which is a great thing.
Now there are some shoes that you just have to replace. I never keep flip flops or sandals for many seasons. One reason is in the summer I like to live in my flip flops. I buy quality flip flops. Rainbow sandals are my favorite. I will usually get a black pair and a brown pair and wear them all summer. The other must-have but must replace are tennis shoes that you use for exercising. If you are wearing running or walking shoes for exercising, you need to be sure to replace them fairly regularly. Different brands will have different life spans, so just do some research and make sure you are not wearing worn down athletic shoes for exercising.
When it comes to my personal shoe collection, this about sums it up. Boots, pumps, flip flops, athletic shoes. I also have a comfortable pair of shoes to wear with jeans when flip flops or boots won’t cut it. My current favorite is a cute pair of Rocket Dog tennis shoes with Velcro instead of shoestrings. They’re easy on, easy off, and easy on my pocketbook!
